Thoughts occurring to the poet on seeing a young girl brooding alone in the woods.
PENSIVE THOUGHTS

What ails you O young maiden,
Engrossed in your deepest thought,
Oblivious that to the
Flowers you have fragrance brought?

Is it that you have wandered
Too far away from your home?
Maybe you cannot retrace
The path while the sun is gone.

Is it that you have met some
Prince charming in your sweet dream?
Though you are lost in his thoughts,
Your eyes have his distant gleam.

Is it that for your sweetheart,
You have been waiting too long,
Wondering with every beat,
Does he to you still belong?

With your tender emotions,
Has someone cruelly played?
Has he, in the name of love,
Forsaken you and betrayed?

No, fair maiden, tell me that
You have not parted with mirth.
You are so tender and sweet
I can’t bear to see you hurt.
