A true fish story with a touch of exaggeration.
Anyone who has ever gone fishing has at least one BIG STORY. Why should I be any different?

It is Saturday morning and the alarm has just sounded…. I
opened my eyes as the alarm went off. I sat up and rubbed the sleep from
with my fists. I struggled to get out of bed as I swung one leg then the other
over the side of my bed. My body followed as I finally sat up.

Then I realize… it’s SATURDAY, what am I doing? It hits me like a falling rock, my husband and I are going fishing. Not wanting to leave late, I rush to dress. I break my own time record, 20 minutes from bed to car. Wow!

Along the way… we stop and pick up some bait. On the wall in the bait shop there is a poster advertising a contest which I read and disregarded. A decision I lived to regret. You’ll understand why a little later. We buy our bait and leave.

We arrive at the lake… and we parked as close to the lake as possible. As my husband unpacked the gear out of the truck, I pull out my fishing pole…. I then stick my hand in icy cold water of the bucket and pull out a shiner, (for those who are not fishermen, shiners are little silver minnows or fish.) It’s like they know their destiny they try to avoid my hand. Finally I catch one and place it on the hook. I am now ready!

I quietly walk to the edge of the lake… Not wanting to disturb the bass, I raise the pole up and over my head and cast. I watch as the shiner flies through the air and finally lands about 200 feet out in the lake.

Then suddenly!!…. Oh my God!!! The water begins to churns, I notice the line on my pole being ripped off the real. Just as suddenly the line stopped. I knew that the Bass was turning the bait around and would be taking off again. Sure enough there he goes again!!!

I rear back and up… and lock the bail and YES! He is hooked! He tries to take off again but is unable to do so because the bail is still locked in place. Oh… Oh… he’s mad… he wants to take off … There he goessss……
As I release the bail he takes off…the line begins to unreel faster than a bullet in mid air. I just keep the line taught and let him run till he tires out.

This baby is not going to give up without a fight….. He twists to the right and he twists to the left. He shakes his head trying to shake the hook. He keeps this up he’ll break this line.

WOWwwww!!!!!!
Did you see that?? He just jumped straight up out of the water, shook his entire body, waved his tail and gave his head another vigorous shake trying to loose the hook, before diving back into the water. That was such a breathtaking site I almost forgot to keep tension on my line, he almost shook the line loose.

IT’S TIME TO BRING HIM HOME…..
Finally!!! Here he comes….. Boy he is huge!!!! …. Let’s see how big he is…. 15lbs 9oz!!!! Wow!!! Let’s see… 16 inches long!!!! THAT’S A BIG BASS IN ANYONE’S BOOK!!!!!

Remember at the beginning of this story I told you I made a decision I would live to regret? I week later, on the way to the lake again, we stopped at the same bait shop. I remembered the contest so I asked the owner who won the contest and the size of the winning bass… It was a man and he caught it at the same lake we were at… The winning bass weighed 14lbs 8oz and was
14 ½ inches.

Boy did I regret the decision not to enter the contest…. AND THAT IS MY BIG FISH STORY……
