Young Mattie Ross [Kim Darby] hires Rooster Cogburn [John Wayne] to find the men who killed her father. During their travels, Mattie discovers an old secret family recipe. They give up on the hunt, and instead open a chain of family restaurants featuring their recipe that becomes standard fare in the South.
