Summary of this DVD...
This DVD is a PBS Mystery that was based on the first novel in the Lynley series, written by Elizabeth George. Since I am in the process of reading all of the Lynley series, I ordered this DVD from Netflix. It is 3 hours and it was wonderful! My husband, who has not read any of the books, enjoyed it immensely.

This is the story of a country man who is beheaded. His daughter is found next to his body and she is catatonic. There is a lot of family disappearance and conflict to sort through. This DVD differs somewhat from the book it is based on, but that didn't prevent me from enjoying it.
This type of DVD is good for...
anyone who enjoys a good murder mystery with lots of twists and turns.
I especially liked...
the fact that Anthony Calf (who played Colonel Fitzwilliam in Pride and Prejudice) plays Simon St. James. That was a delightful surprise as he is a great actor and I enjoy his work. I wasn't expecting that.
When I finished viewing this DVD I wanted to...
watch the next one in the series and so I will.
This DVD made me feel...
like the book came alive. I actually think this first book was the weakest of those that I have read and the fact that I can now picture the characters better helps.
The cast of this DVD...
is tremendous. I have trouble with the fact that Sharon Small, who plays Sgt. Havers, is so attractive. In the book the author makes a point of the fact that she is very unattractive.

I also liked Nathaniel Parker as Detective Tommy Lynley. It was a bit difficult because he is a blonde in the book and very dark haired and dashing in the DVD.
I recommend this DVD because...
it is a mystery that I enjoyed, having read the book and my husband (who has not read the book) enjoyed too. We are both excited to see the next episode. Diana Rigg was a good narrator.
