Summary of this Book...
A year after Gabby DeLuca returns to Napa Valley, she is ready to move past her failed relationship with her former Tuscan boyfriend. She resumes her position as assistant winemaker to her father at the Suncrest vineyards, which is in transition since the owner past away two year prior. His wife, Ava, is tired of running the vineyard and passes the management to her irresponsible son, Max. Add the attractive financier, Will Henley, into the mix and the passions of career, love, and greed, make for a very fine vintage of a book.
This type of Book is good for...
A modern romance about how career conflicts can affect relationships.
I especially liked...
The first half of this book completely drew me into the splendid setting of Napa Valley vineyards. There must have been a tremendous amount of research to create the flowing activities around wine making for it to be so seamless. The story presented the characters in a very believable fashion and I wanted to delve deeper into the actions surrounding the transition of management within the operation.
I didn't like...
Just about the time I was invested in the story, the character all began to blur. Every character became indignant, and self-absorbed. They all blamed the other for the outcomes of the conflict that unfolded. Everyone was pointing the guilty finger at the other as the narrative excessively explained why each of them thought that way. It was too much narrative, and I disliked the idea that they all believed themselves victims.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
I would be curious to read more from this author.
This Book made me feel...
This book had a very strong beginning. It drew me into the story, with its great setting, and story line. I had trouble as the story's character lost themselves and ALL started to lay blame. Their characteristics became too much the same, and it took me out of the story.
The author of this Book...
Diana Dempsey
Further Comments...
This is a good story set in the wine making area of Napa Valley. It gives a realistic feel of the operations of a small, family owned vineyard. The characters reactions to the conflicts seemed to be too similar, but I would pick up another book by this author.
