Summary of this Book...
Princess Emilie and her two sisters had to flee their German prinicpality of Holstein-Schweinwald, Huhnhof after the assasination of the Prince their father, and Emilie's own sister's husband. They arrive in London at the home of their mother's brother, the Duke of Olympia. He cooks up a scheme to keep his three nieces safe while working on figuring out who was responsible for the assasinations.

Uncle Duke's plan sends each of the three sisters off, dressed as men, to different locations to work in households. Emilie is sent to be tutor for the son of the Duke of Ashland, a precocious teen with an attitude.

The Duke of Ashland was in a precarious position - he'd gone off to war and returned with horrid scars, inside and out. His wife had run off shortly thereafter, leaving him to care for their only child, the same Freddie that Emilie will be tutoring. In the guise of a young man named Grimsby, Emilie enters their household, where she finds herself drawn to the Duke (of course). The Duke remains faithful to his wife, though, despite her disappearance.

Emilie finds herself caught in an awkward situation at the local hotel/spa as the proprietress mistakes her for the woman sent to keep the Duke company once a month. She had been dressed as a woman in disguise to meet her old governess, who had fled Germany with them and was keeping her apprised of the situation with regard to the search for the assasin. Emilie ends up in a hotel room with the Duke, who blindfolds her and undresses her to her undergarments, then has her turn her back and . . . read to him.

Things get out of hand because the Duke finds himself drawn to her and leaves a note requesting her to return the following week. Eventually the truth comes out, of course, and the Duke brings Emilie back to London to try and get to the bottom of the mystery.
