Summary of this Book...
This is the story of November 21-25, 1963, told from the vantage point of the only person in the fatal car of JFK that is still alive.

The man who wrote this book is a hero and a gentleman, who has blamed himself for not doing enough for fifty years. The truth is that he did all that anyone could possibly do and very definitely, he was the person Jacqueline Kennedy could rely upon in her darkest hour. I think he literally saved her life.

He writes with a lot of dignity and class with intimate knowledge of the sequence of events that led to the horrible tragedy in Dallas on November 22, 1963.
This type of Book is good for...
anyone interested in the history of the assasination and the events surrounding it. Mr. Hill and his co-author include a lot of pictures that are very pertinent to the descriptions. The pictures back up everything he says.
I especially liked...
Mr. Hill's modesty and his truthful matter of fact style. Of all the people I have ever heard bloviate on the event, he is the one I believe the most.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
read more about an event that fascinates me.
This Book made me feel...
like my heart is broken for the suffering Mr. Hill has endured. He is truly a hero who thinks of himself as a failure. That is the ultimate tragedy really. I am sure Mrs. Kennedy was grateful to him for her whole life.
The author of this Book...
knows what happened because he was there. I have been to Dealey Plaza. It mystifies me how Oswald could have done it, but after reading Mr. Hill, I am inclined to believe that he did. That space where the car traveled during the shots fired is so small. It is very much smaller than it looks on TV.
I recommend this Book because...
this is the best use of photographs I've ever seen in a portrayal of what happened that day. Mr. Hill was part of the schedule. It was a campaign trip until those shots rang out. Mr. Hill saved Mrs. Kennedy's life by jumping on a moving vehicle and pushing her back into the car. No one could have saved the President that day - it all happened too fast and he was already dead with that last shot.
Further Comments...
This is about the assasination of President Kennedy. There are grisly photos, but that is part of the truth of the event. I think this is a very respectful and probably the most accurate portrayal of the event from a unique point of view.
