This movie is based on the classic novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in the 1920's. It has never translated well into film and it doesn't do it here.

I wanted to like this movie, but I did not.

I particularly didn't like the use of hip-hop music to try and modernize the film. They should have stuck to jazz.

The story is about a man who is obsessed with a woman. He acquires great wealth in order to impress her, but all that wealth means nothing in a sea of lies and corruption in the end.

The casting in this movie was horrific.

the cars. I liked the old cars.

the cast and the use of the term, "Old Sport". They could have found a better way to do it and still retain the spirit of the story.

well, I wanted to watch something that was better.

sick.

was miscast.

I think the casting here was way off. DiCaprio would have been much better as Nick Carrawy. Tobey Maguire was a nightmare as was Carey Mulligan.

If they want to carry off that "Old Sport" stuff, they need someone British like Dan Stevens, or better yet, an unknown.

Jazz is the music of the time. Jazz fits the story. Hip hop is modern, but it doesn't fit the story.

Reading the book is a million times more entertaining than watching this movie was.
