Summary of this Book...
This is a remarkable story that takes place in World War II. It is about a blind French girl, whose father is the keymaster at the Museum of Natural History in Paris. The girl, Marie-Laure, has been blind since the age of 6. Her father teaches her how to get around Paris by building a model of their area for her.

The War forces them to flee Paris to into Saint-Malo France. The book begins with the Allied bombing of St. Malo and is told in flashbacks and flash forwards.

The other main character is a German boy, Werner Pfennig, who is small for his age, but gifted in repairing all sorts of radio equipment. Werner also ends up on St. Malo as a Nazi soldier.

It is the humanity in Marie-Laure and that in Werner that connects. Werner is one of the most interesting characters in literature.

I will not give more of the plot away, but the book is extraordinary and a real page-turner.
This type of Book is good for...
anyone who enjoys a great story set in WWII times.
I especially liked...
the character of Werner. I didn't want to at first, but the writing compelled me to have great affection in the end for Werner.
I didn't like...
the ending as much as the rest of the book. This seems to be the problem with most books I read these days. The endings seem sort of forced and abrupt.

I wanted more of an ending, especially where Werner was concerned.
I recommend this Book because...
it is a wonderful book and easily read as it has very short chapters. I read it in about 3 days. It was very enjoyable and engaging reading.
