Summary of this Book...
Desire and Duty is a nice piece of erotic fantasy, set in imaginary fantasy world. Nineteen years old Lenora is a bride of Emperor of Kienia, Averys, who is expecting of her to give him son. Their attempts fail at the beginning of the book mostly because Averys is not suitable to impregnate her. She overhear the conversation where she realizes that Averys is attempting to "remove" her and get another wife for she is not able to fulfill her duty, and finding someone who will be capable to make her pregnant becomes her primal occupation in order to keep herself alive. Her final decision falls on well trained assassin Nathaniel with who she discover her own sexual desires and real love. After she gets pregnant with Nathaniel the truth about impotent Averys is revealed. But not only that, she also discover Averys's homosexual and kinky relationships.
And while Lenora and Nathaniel enjoy secretly in their new found love, Emperor Averys enjoy in his homosexual relationship with Chief Commander Barentyn. The idea about "removal" of Lenora is not important anymore after she gets pregnant. Right after she thought she saved herself from death, and when she started to enjoy in her own sexuality, it was about the time for the baby to be born. On her own dismay the baby has a red hair, just like the baby's father Nathaniel (who happened to be the only man in Emperor's service with that hair color) which brings another wave of fear. What will happen when Averys finds out that the baby isn't his own?
I especially liked...
I admire her writing style. I love when writing makes me feel something and she did it extremely well.
I didn't like...
Plot was pretty much predictable but she, somehow, managed it very well with her writing style. There wasn't any dull or boring scenes. Even though I knew what will possibly happen I couldn't leave the book aside for the next day. It's like when you probably know what will happen but you keep reading just to confirm your prediction and be like: ha, I told you so! There was something exciting in it though.
When I finished n/a this Book I wanted to...
When I finished with reading of Desire and Duty I wanted to read more of it. I went to amazon and checked her profile and oh, what a surprise- there was the second book from the same series which I bought right away of course.
This Book made me feel...
I usually laugh when I read erotica short stories but I have to admit that her writing style was pretty satisfying and I enjoyed immensely. It even gives you butterflies in the stomach. Not every writing can give me this feeling though. I'm sure that if you ever come across Desire and Duty it won't leave you indifferent.
The n/a of this Book...
E.C. Jarvis is a British author working mainly in speculative and fantasy fiction genres. She has five published books so far, in two different genres and in series. The Machine, The Pirate, and The War, written in steampunk genre and Desire & Duty, and Lust & Lies written in erotic fantasy genre.
I recommend this Book because...
This was my very first erotica book I have ever read and I'm really satisfied that it exceeded my expectations. If you have never read erotica I'd strongly recommend Desire and Duty to you. It's tasteful and descriptive.
I don't recommend this Book because...
If you are fond of fantasy genre, Kingdoms, wars, Game of Thrones and similar, you won't find it here. While they are mentioned briefly through the entire book this isn't the primal occupation of the writer. While she reveals some kind of knowledge of building the fantasy world, she doesn't focus to get into details about the Empire.
