Summary of this Book...
Isabelle Maguire is the daughter of a one-time well known plant biologist, George Brookes, but due to his odd experiments and seemingly unbelievable claims about plant ‘intelligence’, he was discredited in the botanical scientific world and his relationship with Isabelle becomes non-existent. After his death thirty years later she learns she is a heir to the small Canadian island off Nova Scotia where he conducted his experiments and where she grew up for her first 10 years.
The relationship with her husband is going downhill, and after George’s lawyer tells she needs to go to the island immediately for the reading of the will, she reluctantly agrees and decides to take her two sons and the teenage girl her husband has taken into their home because of her own family crisis.
When they arrive on the island for the reading and a short two week ‘vacation’ from her marriage, Isabelle is reunited with a scientist, Jules, who worked with her father, as well as George’s greedy and self-centered female companion.
When going through her father’s scientific journals and realizing something is very wrong with the plant life on the island, strange things begin happening to the group.
And when a fierce storm hits and the power goes out, Isabelle knows they might not make it off the island alive.
I especially liked...
the mystery Colluci adds to it. The characters are well portrayed, and even though there’s a lot of scientific terminology in it, it’s still easy enough to follow.
I didn't like...
the ending didn’t quite live up to what I was expecting. Although the book is based on scientific fact and current and past research, it was somewhat too surreal for me.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Get her first book, The Colony, which I’ve since found out is a scientific thriller about killer ants that are taking over the world.
This Book made me feel...
curious as to just how advanced the science of plant neurobiology has become. Plants might be a lot more intelligent than we give them credit for, and I wonder if they really can think!
The author of this Book...
doesn’t just sit down and start writing. Like most good authors, she puts a lot of research into her subject and professionally mixes real science with horror from new discoveries about plants and exploring the implications they might have on our world.
A.J. Colluci lives in New Jersey with her husband and two daughters. She can be visited at her Web site at www.ajcolluci.com.
I recommend this Book because...
anybody who is interested in botany, its research, and how much we know and don’t know about the plant world would be very interested in this
Further Comments...
Seeders is A.J. Colluci's 2nd novel (her first one being 'The Colony'). It’s a scientific horror/mystery thriller that’s been compared to a mix between Michael Crichton’s Jurrasic Park and H.G. Well’s The island of Dr. Moreau.
