Summary of this Book...
Madeleine Roux has a done a nice job with this short mystery/thriller about a young man entering a summer school for gifted students that was once an insane asylum.
When 16 year old Dan Crawford meets some new people while taking classes there, he becomes curious about the asylum's history, and starts looking around, only to find out with some of his new friends that a a lot of terrible things happened there.
A well crafted young adult novel, complete with actual photos from real psychiatric hospitals.
This type of Book is good for...
Anybody interested in what really happened to old asylums which were shut down due to the inhumane treatments the patients had to endure.
I especially liked...
The simple style Madeleine Roux told it, as well as the real photos she inserted to help carry the story along.
I didn't like...
The ending wasn't quite what I expected, and it was a little disappointing. But it was simple and to the point, so considering that it's meant for young adults, maybe it just wasn't up to my tastes.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
I wanted to check out more books by Roux since Asylum is part of novella series of these books of hers, with Asylum being the first.
This Book made me feel...
Curious about what happened in psychiatric hospitals in the mid 1900s and wanting to know a little more behind their history.
I recommend this Book because...
Anyone is likes simple thriller stories about history and how mental patients were treated in real life would enjoy this.
Further Comments...
This was the first book by this author I've read, and I was mildly impressed. She is also the author of 'Allison Hewitt Is Trapped' and 'Sadie Walker Is Stranded'.
