I'm glad I read some of the reviews online before writing my own, because I honestly thought there was something wrong with me, giving this a three-star review.

Death is a great character. I just love him. He barely says anything. Still love him.

Brooks writes next-level satire and manages to do without the trapping of holier-than-thou-ness. It's the good satire, where you forget that it's satire. Did I mention satire? Okay, just checking.

There are parts of this book that I adore. Straight-up in a Douglas Adams way adore. And a lot that amused me...far less. But even so, the parts that didn't thrill me, didn't exactly stop me from turning the pages either.

In fact, I smiled an awful lot.

And I read this sucker in one sitting, so there's that.

It was worth it just to listen to Death. And in-sewer-ants.

Screw it, I changed it to four stars. It amused me.

But maybe not four full stars worth.

I changed it back.

IT'S 3.5 STARS, OKAY? Leave me alone.

It's worth the read, and I heard rumours there's better books in the series, but what do I know, I read that on the internet. Personally, I've only read one book that gets somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. 3.75 STARS.

Maybe I'll just jump in at book seven and give it five stars no matter what, and then I'll feel like everything leveled out with this whole ratings business.
