Summary of this Book...
It doesn’t feel might to say I enjoyed this book because the subject matter is incredibly dark. What does feel right to say is this is a well-written, haunting book that will stay with me for some time.

Cornelia (Leah) Blackwood’s husband dies in a car crash on a road he shouldn’t have been travelling. What was he doing there? Who was he visiting?

The story is told from two perspectives: after Adrian’s accident, and the the months and days leading up to a mystery accident that Leah had. We know all along her baby is dead, and we are given clues that it was Leah’s fault, but the actual accident itself is very cleverly written. The immediate aftermath of Adrian’s death is so moving. I found myself with more than one tear in my eyes.

Leah’s actions which lead to the final reveal are no surprise. I was a little disappointed at the predictability of it. Really, the only thing that surprised me was the very end. I’m not sure I liked it. If the writing wasn’t as good as it is, I might have struggled with the plot. I’m not saying it isn’t realistic —I think this is an accurate portrayal of post-partum psychosis. It’s very real. But, for a novel, I would have preferred a few more surprises.
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone who likes to read thought-provoking and moving stories. There are happy and light moments, but Leah’s post-partum psychosis is frighteningly well written.
I especially liked...
The honesty with which Susan Elliot Wright writes. She has an incredible ability to make us feel sorry for a woman who is clearly doing the wrong thing.
I didn't like...
The end. Some of it was obvious right from the start of the book. Then, the very end ... I didn’t like.
The n/a of this Book...
I like Susan Elliot Wright’s style. She is easy to read, and her work is filled with warmth and heart.
