Oh, this book is awesome. It breaks your heart, mends it a little, then breaks it again. But, ultimately, the story is uplifting and the kind of story everyone needs to read.

The horrors that the Foss children endure, the loss and the pain, are more than most adults could cope with. But these river children are survivors, and that shines through.

I love Lisa Wingate’s style. I’ve never read any of her work before, but I will definitely be reading more of her after this. Her style is so warm and rich and descriptive. And her talent for writing characters’ emotions is out standing. She gets you so caught up in the story and the characters’ lives that you feel a part of their world. You can see the Arcadia. You can smell the children’s home. You feel the fear of the children. It’s absolutely mesmerising. I can’t praise it enough.

What I love the most about this book, though, are the relationships between people. From the love the siblings have for one another to the sexy Trent and his adorable little son. It really is a great study of people.

This is my favourite book so far this year!

Anyone who enjoys a good story. People who love to read about people. Actually, it’s good for everyone.

Lisa Wingate’s writing style. It’s so descriptive and filled with so much emotion. You get hooked right from the off, and you have to keep reading until you know everything there is to know about the characters. You feel like you know them personally

It is heartbreaking. It made me really sad. But it also offered a form of redemption, and I loved the ending. I felt entertained. In the end, I felt happy.

I know nothing about her, but I intend to find out as much as possible.

It’s a great read, a great story, that is beautifully written. It’s also based on a real life scandal, and I think everyone could benefit from knowing about it.
