Summary of this Book...
I discovered quite a few books by this author in my Kindle library, so I figured they must be my kind of thing. And, in a way, this was. It is the story of a killer and the FBI agents trying to track and catch him. My kind of thing. However, the writing wasn’t the best I’ve ever read. Not the worst, either, but not really great. Also, I don’t know whether this book was self-edited, or whether it has been converted to an ebook (badly), but there were multiple typos. I would have thought this was down to inexperience or self-publishing, except this author has written numerous books, and she seems well established. So, I don’t know. It bugged me.

The story follows Kate Wise, a fifty-five year old retired FBI agent whose friend’s daughter is murdered in her own home. Her friend asks Kate to look into it, and, although she knows she shouldn’t, she can’t resist having a poke around. Cue: a fight with the victim’s ex-boyfriend that lands Kate in the chief’s office. But, rather than simply ball her out, he temporarily reinstates her so she can look into this case. As two other victims show up, both friends of the original, it is a race against time for Kate to find the killer.

Kate is partnered with the fairly new, but super competent, agent Di Marco. I love the pairing of these two. It was probably my favourite thing about the novel. I really liked having these two strong female leads.

Now, despite what I mentioned above, I did enjoy this book. It is fast paced, and I liked the storyline. Especially once I neared the end, and the big reveal arrived. It got really exciting at that point. (Although, it did kind of fizzle out once we reached the denouement, and I found myself wondering if I missed something.)

Oh, my final gripe … the title. I don’t get how this relates to the book. If who knew what? It doesn’t make any sense.

So, will I read the other Kindle books I have by this author? Probably, at some point. I would definitely be interested to read any others with this pair of agents working together. It’s not the best written book in the world. But it’s not the worst, either. Yeah. It was fairly enjoyable.
This type of Book is good for...
People who enjoyed fast paced, plot-based thrillers. People who like police/FBI thrillers. It would be a good, quick beach read.
I especially liked...
Kate and Di Marco. The obvious way to go with a strong female pairing would have been to have them dislike one another from the start. But, instead, these two complement each other. They work really well together. I love their partnership.
I didn't like...
The errors. Typos. Very annoying. But, they could have occurred during ebook conversion, and not in the author's writing. I don't know.
This Book made me feel...
A little annoyed at times. Excited at the end.
The author of this Book...
Blake Pierce. She has written a bunch of police procedural books, many of which I found in my Kindle library. I clearly like them from reading the back cover blurbs. I didn't think Pierce's writing was the best I've ever read.
I recommend this Book because...
It's exciting. It's quick and easy to read.
I don't recommend this Book because...
It's not the most unique plot. The writing isn't fantastic.
