Summary of this Book...
I really enjoyed this book. Although it is billed as the first D.D. Warren detective book, it is mu ch more about the SWAT sniper, Bobby Dodge.

Bobby is one of many called the scene of a domestic hostage scene. The information he is given is that a man is holding his wife and young son at gunpoint. Bobby sets up position in sight of the trio. He watches with his finger poised on the trigger of his rifle. Then, as he watches the suspect decide to pull the trigger of his gun, Bobby beats him to it and blows him away. The wife mouths, "Thank you," to Bobby. This doesn't sit right with him.

Catherine Gagnon is the woman who Bobby saves. It just so happens that when she was a young girl, she was abducted by Richard Umbrio and held captive until she is able to escape. She is abused and mistreated terribly in the time she is held captive. The result is a woman who will do whatever it takes to save what is important to her. The question is, does that include setting up the whole scenario where Bobby arrives on scene and kills her husband for her?

What follows is a long line of messy murders and investigations into Bobby and his motives for pulling the trigger. I didn't understand why D.D., who once dated Bobby, would have been so quick to think him nothing more than a common murderer. She knew him better than most, so I was confused by her lack of solidarity.

This book is super exciting. I didn't know who I could trust. Did Catherine have Munchausen's By Proxy, or was Nathan really ill? Was James Gagnon (her father-in-law) pulling all the strings and paying Mr Bosu? Even when I finally thought I knew the answer, the author added a few paragraphs to leave me with doubt. Genius!
This type of Book is good for...
People who love crime fiction, thrillers, suspenseful novels. It is exciting, fast paced.
I especially liked...
Catherine. I love how she is written as this character who is both dangerous and charismatic. We never really know what she is capable of and what she has done. I just didn't know where I was with her, and it worked really well.
I didn't like...
The way Bobby's entire team were quick to believe he had been sleeping with Catherine and had killed Copley, amongst others.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read another Lisa Gardner.
This Book made me feel...
Excited. Happy. Intrigued.
The author of this Book...
Lisa Gardner. I've only recently discovered this author. This is the second book of hers that I've read, and so far, I loved them both.
I recommend this Book because...
It's a brilliant, fast , clever read.
