Summary of this Book...
This story is told by Hazie Coogan who is a puppeteer of sorts (but mostly a maid) for the famous Katherine Kenton. The story is told as if it is a screenplay with chapters being labeled such as "Act One, Scene One" and camera angles being described; however, other than that this novel does follow a traditional narrative structure. While Hazie is known for her housework, she is really orchestrating Miss Kathie's life in the background. When Miss Kathie meets Webster and they fall in love, Hazie attempts to stop the reunion. Later it is found that Webster is trying to kill Miss Kathie for his own gain in a book he is writing about their relationship. However, is everything as it seems?
This type of Book is good for...
Chuck Palahniuk fans. You should be used to the bizarre way that Palahniuk writes and his quirky use of an unreliable narrator to really get into this book.
I especially liked...
I liked the ending, but I can't really say more on that without spoiling everything!
I didn't like...
This novel moved pretty slow for my taste. It was also pretty boring for most of it. I was a bit disappointed because Palahniuk is known for his shocking narratives and unique story lines and I felt that this work just fell flat.
This Book made me feel...
A bit disappointed. I always look forward to reading Chuck Palahniuk and this book just didn't match up to his other novels.
I don't recommend this Book because...
I would suggest reading other Chuck Palahniuk books before this one (my favorites are Rant and Lullaby). I just feel like it was a bit flat and boring compared to his other narratives and you won't get the same effect that some of his other novels produce.
