Summary of this Book...
This is the fifth book in Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter's series. It stars Jason, who is one of Raphael's Seven. By this point in the series, we are familiar with the Seven, and appreciate their steadfast loyalty to Raphael, but each man's individual story is yet unknown.

Jason is an angel. He was born in the Pacific Isles, and has a dark history and an affinity for shadows. He is Raphael's spymaster. All of this we know before the book starts.

Jason is sent to India to find out who killed the archangel Neha's consort. Raphael and Jason agree that finding out who the murderer was is necessary to prevent Neha taking out her rage on innocents. But Neha and Raphael are not allies, not after Raphael was the one to execute Neha's daughter for her crimes. So Neha makes Jason swear a blood oath to her niece, Princess Mahiya. The blood oath means that Jason cannot act in a way that would bring harm to Mahiya's family. And that of course includes Neha.

Mahiya (also an angel) and Jason work together to find the person who murdered Neha's consort, and by the end, the blood oath is not the only thing binding them together.
This type of Book is good for...
fans of paranormal romance. This series features archangels, angels, vampires and humans. There's good pace - a nice mix of action and emotion.
I especially liked...
I figured out the identity of the murderer before Jason and Mahiya did, but it was definitely a twist that I hadn't expected. The story kept me guessing as to how it would play out. The pace was good. I thought Jason and Mahiya were a good fit for each other. Jason needed someone sweet after all he'd been through, and she needed security and honesty. It was a satisfying addition to the series. I can't wait to read Aodhan and Illium's stories, but I think the author will keep me waiting a while!
The author of this Book...
has a number of books to her name, including the bestselling Psy-Changling series, which is also paranormal romance.
Further Comments...
I 'read' the Audible version of this book. My only comment is that Mahiya did not have an Indian accent, which seems somewhat unrealistic as she grew up in India. Neha had an Indian accent, why not her niece? But otherwise, it was well done.
