Further Comments...
“White Fragility” is a necessary book for all white people to read, particularly if you self-identify yourself as progressive, accepting, understanding, or “color-blind.” This book truly opened my eyes to the fact that I am not without fault in the prevalent culture of racism in America. No one is without fault no matter how much you believe racism does not play a role in your life, your outlook, your relationships, or your unconscious assumptions and biases. I appreciated Robin DiAngelo’s repetition of her main points throughout the book. This reinforced her message and helped it sink in in various contexts. Though I would first recommend reading the book, DiAngelo has also done various interviews, TV spots, articles, and other media to promote her message. One that is fairly quick to digest and hits several of her major themes from the book is this video on Youtube: https://youtu.be/M1SlOWmONRI

I will need to read this book again because it is packed with thought-provoking questions that deserve discussion and intense personal reflection. I urge all white people to read this book with an open mind and try to put aside all of your previous conceptions and experiences with race and racism. This book is important and a vital first step in recovering from a cultural socialization that has been so pervasive that we, as white people, can’t confront the inequities in our society even though we are literally surrounded by them every day.

Please read this book.
