Summary of this Book...
Warcross is a game, an obsession, where people across the globe go to escape from regular life. Teenage Bounty Hunter/hacker Emika Chen tracks down players who illegally bet on the game. Desperately needing money to pay her rent, Em hacks into the International Warcross Championships and accidently finds herself in the action. The game's creator, however, offers her a job--to spy and uncover the security problem inside of Warcross, appearing as a Wildcard player. What she discovers, however, is not what she expected.
This type of Book is good for...
This type of book will attract not only teens, but anyone who might enjoy playing virtual reality games.
I especially liked...
I liked that Emika was finally accepted by her team players, once she opened up to them. I could also understand, why the team was hesitant to accept her.
I didn't like...
I wish I'd heard more about Em's roommate in New York, the one Em left after her new job offer. Seems like with all the technology, they could have at least texted once.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
I'd like to read Book 2, Wildcard. The whole virtual reality thing fascinates me.
This Book made me feel...
Even though this is Science Fiction, I wouldn't be surprised if something like this might actually happen in the future.
The author of this Book...
Marie Lu has also written Legend, Prodigy, and Champion, as well as The Young Elites, along with Book 2: Wildcard of the Warcross series. She lives in Los Angeles, California with her husband and three dogs. She is a full-time writer.
I recommend this Book because...
The story is well-written and the characters are not flawless, which I like. The splash of romance interweaved is not overdone, which is refreshing.
I don't recommend this Book because...
For anyone who might be paranoid about this sort of thing, probably shouldn't read it.
Further Comments...
My granddaughter read this first and told me it was good. Now we can discuss it, which is cool. Her book club at school is reading it, so I'll be interested to hear about their comments, too.
