Summary of this Book...
This is the first book in the famous "Twilight" series. I haven't seen the movie they based the book on so all I knew going in was that it was very popular and featured vampires. I was surprised to find out it was a young adult novel and almost put it away when I saw the heroine was only 17 years old as I've read a lot of young adult novels lately but I needed this one for a category in the 52 in 52 reading challenge so decided to stick with it and am glad I did. Meyer's writing drew me in and kept me riveted. So much that I was half asleep for the end of the novel. I just had to finish and find out what happened.

So the first half of the novel, while really well written, isn't as full of action as the second. It gets a lot more tense near the end. And because I was sleepy I don't know if the story line kind of fell apart or I just was too sleepy to make sense of it but I enjoyed the first 3/4 of the book more than the end. I might re-read the end before I go on to the next book in the series but I absolutely want to read the next book and find out what happens with Bella.
This type of Book is good for...
People who like stories about young adults, vampires, the supernatural, teen drama, family drama, and, if you don't mind waiting until well into the book, action/mystery/suspense.
I especially liked...
That the writing kept my attention so well (at least when I wasn't sleepy *Smile*) and drew me into to the story. I liked the unusual description of Edward's/ Meyer's idea of a vampire's skin in the sun. That was new and novel. As was the vampire baseball game. I liked the Native American elements and the hints of more to come in that area in future books. I liked what a great dad Bella's dad wanted to be.
I didn't like...
I found it very difficult to believe that Bella's dad would have just let her go off as she did at the end and not follow up better (or check with her mom), especially as he was a law enforcement officer. If I wasn't just sleepy, the ending big drama scene was kind of disappointing.

Also, the degree of clumsiness attributed to Bella just didn't feel believable. It's the main reason why, while deeply engaged in the story, I never felt like I was Bella. Not that I don't have my clumsy moments, but it was kind of way beyond what's believable without some kind of disability to explain it. However, it was necessary for explaining Bella's injuries at that peak of the action end scene, so I understand why the author did it.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read the next one, but I have some other library books due back soon so need to read those first.
This Book made me feel...
Like I was reading Bella's thoughts and seeing through her eyes.
The author of this Book...
From Amazon: "Stephenie Meyer is the author of the #1 bestselling Twilight Saga, The Host, and The Chemist. Twilight has enraptured millions of readers since its publication in 2005 and has become a modern classic, redefining genres within young adult literature and inspiring a phenomenon that has had readers yearning for more. The series has sold 160 million copies worldwide and was made into five blockbuster feature films. Stephenie lives in Arizona with her husband. Her website is stepheniemeyer.com."
I recommend this Book because...
It was an engaging and entertaining read.
