Blogging, to take over the world.
The object is to teach an old dog new tricks. (not much hope ... )

There I was busy sorting out the Japanese Radish (another story) when behind some screens a nest of eggs was seen.
The first idea was goose eggs, as the geese are buzy pairing up for the summer ahead - it was a bit early for the geese to start nesting, they start to lay eggs in August.

Looking closer, it was five turkey eggs!

The one turkey has gone rogue on me and kept jumping the fence.
This still in being mid July and winter in the south, it was unusual to find a turkey nest.

Then I remembered, a turkey is American, and in the turkey's mind, America is in high summer.

So be it, even a turkey can think what a turkey wants to think.

To each their own - that is democracy, free thought.

Oh, doing is another story, as this stupid turkey will soon find out, once she starts to brood, if that is her intention.

Doing what you like - that is another story - all together!

Every year, since way back when, twice a year, the world is treated to it.

The long and the short of it.

SOLSTICE

My BUCKET list has this item there:

Sleep a full winter's solstice night - that is it, from sunset to sunrise, and a bit.

The basics lined up:

One meerkat pillow, snuggly-wooly-blanket, frilly nightdress, sleep-socks, night-cap.

No night mask is allowed, the purist must face the nightmare head-on.

A scoop, brush, and bucket, is allowed for the sheep, should there be any ... well that.

Do not forget the bale of hay, a treat for the beasts of the night, or hitting, should one be so inclined.

This may be in the South on the 21st June 2016.

Enjoy.

The first step - have an idea/dream/need/urge/instruction/order, and so on.

Then the process, the birth so to say;

For this we will quote Ruyard Kipling's work - from 'Just so stories'
I keep six honest serving-men
(They taught me all I knew);
Their names are What and Why and When
And How and Where and Who.

Add to this my 'How Much'.

Now there may be a plan:

Percy-C.Back: The Scope of Music;
The accumalation of facts may make you well informed, but knowledge and wisdom come from the discovery of principle.

Consider this oh great Procrastinator !

Samuel Johnson
Nothing will ever be attempted, if all possible objections must first be overcome.

Let the show begin!

Being a farmer, the weather is all important at all times; summer, fall, winter and spring - all four chapters of a year.

Each brings its own, or like this year, skimp a bit - with negative results.
Even too much can be a problem.

Behind all of this is Mother Nature; hope all remembered to get her a Mother's Day present.

Mother Nature would appreciate a bit more Green Thoughts, and the actions which should carry those thoughts into action.

There, it rained some, enough to see a few decent puddles.

Never start with the weather, is said. The weather is all which is important when you have a drought or a flood.

Summer crops. those who made it to date, is still under pressure.
Early frost, too much rain, and the lack of bees, are all factors which need to be considered.

Birthdays are celebrations of events to still be. Yet we measure it in the past.

I have spent x-years on this earth, and now I am about to enter x+ year.

Today is x+1/366 years.

Things sure have become complicated.

Let us ignore all of those, and carry on regardless.

Politics can sometimes be more entertaining than a Three Ring Circus.

"Look there, see the clowns!" (is this what we pay to see ... surely not?)

Made it to the 29th of February 2016, still nothing has changed till 5pm this afternoon.

A great cloud booked in for a bit of rain, the first since we last counted in January.

Very welcome, maybe we can hear frogs croak again, unless they have already croaked as a result of the drought.

All the other creatures turned up last week, so why not the frogs ?

On the radio this morning, as it is the 29th, leap year, custom says ladies may ask men to marry.

This young lady has gone out with Mr X for five years, and he still has not popped the question.
She decided to ask him on the air to marry her.
The radio station phoned him, she started;
"Will you marry me, considering we have gone out for five years, it is leap year?"
"You know I said we don't have money for this yet, we are not ready yet, can't we speak tonight?"
She basically repeats herself, and the phone goes 'click' on his side, then 'click' on her side.
Sometimes things do not go as we hope they would.
That's life for you.

On the news this evening:

Anyone who has seen the LION KING will have seen what the Kalahari Desert looks like.

It has rained there.
It is said that some kids get to be teenagers before they ever see rain.
Anyways, this year they have seen flamingo visiting their water pans.
Those flamingo belong with us here, gives one an idea of the upside nature of this year.

Not a good indication - to start on a Friday; not even a day old , and already planning a weekend off.

1/11/2016: We can report 15mm of rain during the night.

What a pleasant sight !

1/13/2016: Add 20mm more to the tally.

Starts to get the ARK out of the barn - one never knows.

1/24/2016: A few more millimeters to add, the world is green, the tempreture is mild, still - the crisis is not done.

It is too late to plant corn, other crops can be considered, maybe sunflower.

Quote:

http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/south-africa-sets-earths-hottest-oc...

"Earth's hottest temperature ever recorded in the month of October occurred on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 in South Africa, when Vredendal hit a remarkable 48.4°C (119.1°F).

According to Herrera, the previous world October heat record of 47.3°C was set at Campo Gallo, Argentina on 16 October 1936, and South Africa's highest reliable temperature for any month is 48.8°C (119.8°F), recorded at Vioolsdrif in January 1993. "

This is for the month of October.

Never start a story with the weather - so it is told.

This is all on the table, when will it rain, when, when ...

And I lived to tell the tale.

The baby antelope coming in are weak, thin, ...

We will try to save as many as is possible.

25 December 2015 - X-mas Day

A full moon for the day, hidden by scattered clouds of grey and ocre, dust and rain is on the day's weather menu.

Still a dry situation, still we wait.

26th, 27th, 28th, windstorms with dust, coming in from directions hereto unknown.

160 kilometer north (100 miles), flooding in places, what a strange world we live in.

December end:
Closing the year off with a whimper, watched the Royal Variety Concert, and that was about it.
There are so many issues to carry onto the New Year, let my resolution stand as it was many years ago, let 2016 be THE YEAR - the year when I may get rid of some baggage. Selah!

- to be con't (disregard this)

The joys of life are so different for so many people.

In my world of animals, new ones are always a gift.

It is this time of year again, chicks, lambs, calves, and all things small.

It was also a good year on the human side.

Due an extended family situation, which makes little sense to most, we have increased the world's population considerably.

Counts the little ones, a grand child here, a great grandchild there, and more, and more - what a lot of begetting we have begot.

Is this a situation of counting ones blessings one by one ?

There I was ranting on about doing things "my Way" ... and in steps LIFE.

The previous blog was entered on the 7th of this month, November '15.

November is no more, it is 4.03am 1st December 2015, and Sleep is playing in the field with the stray sheep.

The weekend of the 14 and 15th started like all weekends - every one had a Saturday and Sunday, before another week started.

Exams are high on the list of important things to do, not on the weekend, then, learning is part of the weekend; for some people.

For the exams are ahead, finals, then December holidays!

This was the way for this group of youngsters, doing their first year after school, their first final for a new grown-up degree.

Saturday, a short break, a quick barbeque, no charcoal,
"let's get some from town, be right back, coming?"

Off the three went, and one stayed behind.

It is not clear how the car left the road and went down the cliff.

The news came through to me via Facebook, on my cousin's site, as she lives in the town. There were three faces with names which were not mine.

What I did not know at that moment, not till Wednesday - the fourth was mine - the one who did not make the news; my grandson. The one who stayed behind.
He completed school last year. Now he is doing further studies.

It was with utter mixed feelings when the news really set into the mind.

Then Thursday ...

His brother, who is seven years older than him, took his own life.

How does one get on this road ?

There are many things which can be said here, then - no one will really know.

to be cont ....
