For my blog "Prompt: Romans 5:17-21
17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

We are often preaching to ourselves all day long, but is it words of hope or condemnation? How easy for us is it to give ourselves a break? What do you need to work on to give yourself more grace?"

Grace to myself is an area that I need a lot of work. I was raised by a mother who, bless her soul, had nine children. I always took anything she had to say as gospel truth. When I was baptized at the tender age of nine she told me that my commitment meant that I had to be "perfect as God in heaven is perfect."

She based that comment on the King James Version and a passage of Matthew 5. I took her at her word and for decades I thought being a Christian meant living a sin free life. Of course, I always fell short and then I would beat myself over the head for falling short and going to hell. This resulted in me repeatedly getting "saved", often on a daily basis. I finally gave up in frustration and became a hellion that Satan could have taken lessons from!

Then one day I joined a church. I went forward at invitation several times in a row. Finally, an elder of the church sat down with me and discussed it. I told him what I had been taught and how Matthew 5 says we are to be "perfect" as God is perfect. The elder wept for a few minutes and then explained to me that King James uses the word "perfect" differently than we do. To King James "perfect" did not mean "sinless". It meant "mature".

That was my last trip to the altar. Now when I sin, which I do constantly, I go to the throne of grace. I admit that I am a weak human being who is trapped in a body that can do nothing but sin. This body is doomed to damnation. It has been sentenced to death and Hebrews tells us the day of execution is appointed. The soul however stands in a state of forgiveness because it is sprinkled with the blood of Jesus. God sees the soul as justified. I like to say "Just As If I'd--never done wrong."

Does that mean I can condone sin in my flesh? Absolutely not! I abhor sin in my flesh but my flesh will continue to commit it for it is a slave to sin and has no other choice. My soul however hates sin. My spirit, the third part of me (Trinity) makes the decision of whether to follow the flesh or the soul. The spirit, like the flesh, is fickle. The spirit is the part of me that straddles the fence. If I submit the spirit to the Holy Spirit who dwells within me, the Holy Spirit guides my spirit around the storms of sin in my life. The problem is that my spirit is easily led astray by the flesh, and I fall short.

It usually brings me nightmares related to PTSD from childhood trauma. However, I take a sleeping pill which causes me to sleep at a level that I do not recall the nightmares. As long as I take my pill night only brings peaceful sleep and relaxation. Of course, my prostate wakes me up once a night, but that's another story.

For my blog Prompt: "God revealed something to me this morning. Judges 14:20 stood out to me.

But Samson’s wife was given to his companion, whom he used as his friend.

I find it interesting that it says he used him as his friend.

I sent this to my pastor and it got kind of deep. You see? I have been even trying to friend, friends of friends on Facebook. I have been trying to pay attention to every possible contact I can make. That is good to do in my business, but the Holy Spirit said to me this morning, “Are you just using people or are you truly willing to be a good friend and help each and every one of them?” I had to think about that for a minute and truly consider it. I want to have a right heart with God and a heart to serve others and to do good. Yes, I have fallen short and for that I have repented. I just really want to be successful. I want to be my own boss. I like the freedom and flexibility. I want to truly help others with a right heart.

Let's examine ourselves and ask, "Am I being a true friend to everyone I meet or am I just using them for selfish reasons?"'

I understand flooding social media. I have a page on social media that may as well be a public page. In fact, I believe when I get my student loans in a few weeks I may contact Facebook and see about doing a premium page as a local celebrity. My book is being published and it requires some work on my part. While my heart is not set on being a professional writer any longer since God called me to chaplaincy, I still want my book to sell. So I may talk to Facebook about doing a public page.

Now to the question at hand: "Am I being a true friend to everyone I meet or am I just using them for selfish reasons?"'

I try to love on everybody. That does not mean anything weird. It just means that as a chaplain my calling is to be "in the world but not of the world."

I am even considering taking a day out of my schedule to go to the local Walmart, armed with some tracts and a few bags of lollipops. I will buy a folding chair that I can carry with me. Then I will sit and give lollipops to the children as they come in and distribute tracts to their parents.

As a chaplain my job is to go into the world and minister. That ministry often includes people I will see only once. The impact of that one time however can be eternal whether they become Christian or not. Why? Because I made a memory that will last forever. Do you think those children I give lollipops to are ever going to forget me? More importantly, they will remember that it was a chaplain who gave it to them. Jesus gave them a lollipop. The parents will remember the love (and perhaps the hyper children.) The parents will remember that for that brief moment in time a chaplain took time out to love on them and their children. That makes a tremendous impact for Jesus.

I try to never "use" anybody. I spent a large part of my life leaching off of society because I had always been told that I would never be able to hold a job because I had "issues". I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child and initially spent four weeks in a psychiatric unit. That set up a pattern of psychiatric units and mooching off society that would plague me most of my life. Every time I took on work I would be talked or manipulated into losing it over my perceived disability. The fact is that I believe at the very outside I have Aspergers perhaps, which is a high functioning form of autism. I tend to be a little slow on the uptake sometimes and am very gullible. However I no longer see myself as "disabled." I hold two associate degrees and two bachelor's degrees. I am an honors student in my third year of graduate school at a prestigious university. So I am not disabled. I may be somewhere on the autism spectrum and I may have suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury, but I am not disabled. I am a child of the King. I am a prince. I can and will succeed if I live long enough. As I said, I used people for years thinking it was the only way to survive. I've broken out of that way of thinking. I no longer use people. I love on them and encourage them to succeed. If somebody does a job for me I try to pay them twice or three times what it is worth. When somebody does me a favor, I try to generously reward them. If it is on here, I give them copious amounts of gift points. I know that gift points actually have a monetary bearing. When I have the money I often buy a few million to give away and reward people with. Don't be surprised if you suddenly find you have have a few hundred thousand more gift points than you can account for. That is my way of saying thank you and letting you know I love you.

For my blog "Prompt: Proverbs 16:18-19 18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
19 Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

How has pride affected your life and what do you do to practice staying humble?"

I think a lot of people misunderstand the term "humility." They have the opinion that humility is the exact opposite of arrogance and pride. In a way it is opposite of them but humility is not being a piece of carpet that others can walk on. Humility means instead that we know ourselves as we really are. We have a realistic outlook on ourselves. I have an acquaintance who never fails to tell me that he has a "222 IQ', which by the way is 75 points higher than anybody ever tested. My acquaintance lacks humility. I tell everybody that I have an average IQ of 115 because I have been tested and know my numbers and because I do not see myself as a super genius. I try to be humble in discussing my strengths because I know my limitations as well. Some people do not feel they have limitations. They do not see themselves realistically.

Write about love and sunset today for your Blog entry."

Love to me is a beautiful sunset. The sailors always had a poem: Red sky in morning, sailor take warning. Red sky at night. Sailor's delight."

The poem means that if the sky is red in the morning then bad weather is coming. Red skies in the evening mean the weather will be beautiful. I have found these signs to be true. I do not need a meteorologist to tell me if it will rain today. I just get up before sunrise and watch the skies.

This poem expresses the beauty of a sunset in the evening with signs of clear skies ahead. Love can be either rough or clear weather. I will allow the reader to work that out.

James 1:21-25
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

What do you think all of this means? Forgetting what manner of man he was after walking away from the mirror? This is some good food for thought."

I would have to do a deep dive and analyze this good to come up with a correct answer. I believe just from reading it that what Paul is saying is that we often know what we are supposed to do and how we are suppose to act in a given situation but we soon forget or we cave in to the flesh and give in to the world. All too often Christians get this idea that being saved means being sinless and perfect. It is an idealology that has been in the church since the writings of Augustine. However this is just not the case. Christians are not sinless nor will we ever be sinless in this world. Paul says "Now I see through a glass darkly but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I shall know even as I am known", 1 Cor. 13:12.

What Paul is saying is that in this world we stumble along because we cannot see clearly. We grope and feel our way along and we make mistakes. We sin and sin often. In the world to come we will see perfectly and there will be no sin, no temptation, no error.

6 And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the Lord, and served not him.

7 And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the children of Ammon.

8 And that year they vexed and oppressed the children of Israel: eighteen years, all the children of Israel that were on the other side Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.

9 Moreover the children of Ammon passed over Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sore distressed.

10 And the children of Israel cried unto the Lord, saying, We have sinned against thee, both because we have forsaken our God, and also served Baalim.

11 And the Lord said unto the children of Israel, Did not I deliver you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?

12 The Zidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, did oppress you; and ye cried to me, and I delivered you out of their hand.

13 Yet ye have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will deliver you no more.

14 Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.

15 And the children of Israel said unto the Lord, We have sinned: do thou unto us whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; deliver us only, we pray thee, this day.

16 And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the Lord: and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.

prompt
In the above passage we see how God wants our first love and complete loyalty, not shameful crys from an

unrepentant heart. What is the difference between using God and crying out to him in true faith?"

I think a lot of people want to use God like a magic genie. They pull the lamp down when they are in trouble but only when they are in trouble. Then when the trouble subsides they forget about God.

I think another problem is human attitude about God. Many of us believe that Christians become saved, God wipes out our sin, and we never sin again. This however has not been my experience nor is this experience the human experience. Yes we are restored to a right standing with God when we are saved. Perfection is not part of the process though. Perfection only comes when we pass into eternity. While we remain on earth we remain in the flesh and the flesh is weak. There is sin in my life that I have prayed about and begged God to remove because I am weak and helpless against it. God seems in no hurry to remove it. Then it occurred to me that God is omnipresent and omniscient. He is everywhere and knows everything. He sees sin on a daily basis and it is always in His face. He died to eradicate it and His patience is so much better than ours. If He removed all sin from me He would still see sin in billions of others. My sin is hideous but I cannot fix sin on my own. God will fix it when He is ready to fix it. Perfection is a process. It is not an event.

Does this mean that I condone sin or that God is saying to go ahead and sin because we are going to anyway until He deals with it? No! It does not mean that. It means we should hate sin as much as God does. What we should not do is think we can overcome sin ion our own strength. We cannot overcome sin. God will remove sin in His time. During the meantime the gossip who cannot overcome the sin of gossiping should not sit in judgement of the adulterer who cannot overcome the sin of adultery. We are to love one another and allow God to remove our blemishes. He will do so in His time.

What does this verse mean particularly pertaining to finances?"

I love this verse because it addresses the philosophy by which I live and the philosophy of The Salvation Army in which I serve. The Salvation Army has taught me that I cannot keep what I have without giving it away. While that sounds like a paradox, I have found it to be very true. I tend to be very loose and generous with my money. I have an income of $1450.00 per month or about $17,400.00 per year. Of that I pay my bills and give away about $200.00 per month. Part of the money I give away goes to the church. My church is the Huntington Corps, Salvation Army. I am a soldier there. Part of my covenant with the army is that I will faithfully tithe my income. Since my take home pay each month is $600.00 I send the Army $60.00 per month right off the top. The rest of my income is student loans which I get 17 days after the start of a semester. When I get those, I usually tithe whatever the whole amount is. It varies based on the tuition that semester. I still tithe the loan even though it is a loan because I count on the loans for income and count it toward my working capital for the term.

Once I pay my bills, which are primarily credit cards, I use those credit cards to help others. There are many people who live at the facility I live in who have little or no income so even purchasing a soda is difficult for them. I often treat them to a soda or a dinner. I also routinely treat my men's club at the Salvation Army to lunch at a local Mexican restaurant. The lunch usually runs about $80.00. Then I spend another $120.00 or so per month on other people.

I feel that God wants us to be generous above and beyond our means. I usually do this by using my student loans refunds to pay off my credit card balances and then use the credit cards, along with the stipend of $600.00 per month I get from part time work, to support my spending. God has never let me go for more than a day or two without having credit on my credit cards and a small balance at the bank. My bills are always paid and I still have more than enough to be generous to others. Groups and others on WDC often benefit from God providing for me as well because I buy large amounts of gift points when I get my loans and then give the gift points away. I may choose some random person and anonymously gift them up to 250K gift points or purchase them a premium membership for one year. You never know with me. I just do as I feel led.

Money is a tool. God does not want us to horde money. He wants us to use it to help others. I try to do so with mine and as a result I find that God never lets me do without. I am not rich by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, I just took a cut in stipend pay of $200.00 per month so the $600.00 I was getting has now been cut to $400.00 per month. However, I know that God will continue to provide for me if I do His will and continue to be generous. The Salvation Army never keeps anything. They get huge donations of goods such as soda, food, etc. and all of it is distributed to the needy. There have been times the commander has wondered how we were going to meet the need but God always comes through. One night we were serving a holiday meal. We ran out of food with people lined up to get a meal. As always God came through and a donor provided enough meals to feed the remaining people. I learned to give away the little bit I have and trust God to meet my needs. He always does too!

I am not always the best at articulating my point. In the entry above I may have misled people to believe that I am advocating giving away everything one owns. This is not my point. My point is that God loves us and He will keep His promises to us. I have proven over and over that generosity pays in dividends. God will supply mny every need because He loves me.
