I've got two more shifts at work before I'm on vacation for a week. Whoo!! Gonna hopefully get some writing done in between spring cleaning. Plus, it's my birthday on Monday.

Happy Birthday and I will be saying it again on Monday.
Beacon - Night's Watch - Thanks for the early birthday wishes. And on a high note, it's actually supposed to be sunny and in the 50s Monday, which is a plus since it's been raining almost every day for that like the last week and a half. I generally like cloudy, rainy days, but sunshine's good too. So long as we don't get a freak blizzard this year, we'll be good.
Detective - It has been warm here in California but we are having colder nights. I like the cold nights because I know it will be hot in the summer here.

Gotta love it when your computer decides to cop an attitude. In order for me to use it, it has to remain plugged in, otherwise the battery dies immediately. And if it's on my lap and I move, the plug will detach and cue shutdown. But I have had it for while and I probably need a new one.

I loved the old laptops with their batteries that could easily be removed. Push back the sliders et voilà - out with the old, in with a new. I recently had a newer one that had a failing battery. This was an internal beast, so I had to open up the case to get access. And, in a brilliant example of changing things for the worse, these new notebooks are no longer just screwed shut - the damn things are glued as well. So it's a major hassle to get the thing open, and then when you just screw it shut again you never get it properly sealed. Nothing is built to be economically repairable these days - it's all "throw it away and buy a new one". (And these thin blade power cable sockets are a design fail as well - on my work computer I've got the damn thing secured with duct tape to stop it forever falling out.)

My perfectly sound washing machine has just died on me because the controller has failed. When you factor in both the cost of a new circuit board and the cost of an engineer to fit it, it's cheaper to buy new. So that's a perfectly good piece of kit going to be scrapped for want of a microchip.

Dear God, I've turned into Grandpa Simpson...

Back in the day we wore an onion on our belt, which was the style at the time...

Dave Ryan - I think my laptop battery can be removed and replaced, but my computer's between five and ten years old so I wouldn't even know where to start looking for a new battery.
Trying to keep up with the consistency achievements. I've managed two of the visiting the site ones so far, but not one of the other ones.

Does anyone else have a children's book or series that their still fond of and reread even as an adult? I'm always going to have a special place in my heart for the Magic Treehouse series, the Redwall books and the Bunnicula books, particularly the first one. Has anyone stumbled across a book or series that they read and ended up enjoying even though it's a children's book/series? A few years ago, I stumbled across the first book of The Mistmantle Chronicles and thoroughly enjoyed it. I haven't read the rest of the series yet. but I intend to.
Chronicles of Narnia, several Ander Norton books, and several by Madeline l'engle
I've read some of the Chronicles of Narnia and enjoyed the ones I've read. I've only read one book by Madeline L'engle, A Wrinkle in Time. I didn't know she'd written sequels until years after I'd read it and I haven't gotten around to reading them.
Happy birthday
Thanks!
see above.

Happy 8th!
Kindest Regards, Lilli

Happy Halloween, peeps! I wish you a day of spooky fun and creativity.
To the anonymous individual who gifted me with a Costumicon today, thank you. It helped me get through a long, annoying day at work.

There have been a lot of those given out lately. Awesome! Enjoy!

I need to figure out how to gift costumicons. I tried to a couple of months ago, but couldn't figure it out. Maybe it was just one of those days where my brain injury made a simple task overwhelmingly complicated. Maybe I could do it today. *Think* Anyway, congratulations!
