Friendship
(Do we really let God be our friend?)

I was listening to a teaching on “The 28 Day Prayer Journal”
A book by Chrystal Evans Hurst.
(We need to receive His help, connection, and counsel. We get to enjoy Him – His presence, His love, His kindness, His friendship. Consistency is the key in any relationship, so let’s start doing it!)

I began to think about a recent incident. I was on the phone with a very good friend. I remembered something I was supposed to have done. I told her I had to go. I had to try and figure out how to do this and get it done. My girlfriend said “ Give me a minute to get ready. I’ll come help!”

I thanked her and said “Its okay I need to get it done now. I don’t have time to wait for you.” Then I tried to do the impossible. I should have let her help but I thought I could do fine all by myself. Besides what if she messed it up. Also, I was in a hurry . I was in for a sure disaster. So, do you think I picked up the phone called her back? That would mean I needed help. Like I couldn’t do it better myself.
I wonder how many times we treat God like that. He is the best friend we can ever have. He invented friendship. The line is always free. He calls us regularly but we only answer when we feel like it and are free. However, if we have special news to share, we are down or have a problem and need help he is just a call away. Sometimes we get in too big a hurry to wait on him. Worse yet is when we think we can do it better. Talk about falling flat on your face!

I imagine God’s heart aches when we act like this. Still, he shows up instantly the minute we ask. He always has the best plan. There is no better teacher. Usually God stands by our side but out of our way gently teaching what should be done and how to do things each step of the way. He gives the strength and courage to complete the task. After we do all we can, God our Heavenly Father will start in and finish the task at hand. It will always be the best thing you ever had a hand in! He never asks for a thank you or praise but you must exclaim to the this tired and hurting world, TO GOD BE THE GLORY! Even though he knows our heart better than we ourselves we should never forget to give him thanks.
