Speech to My Rescue Dog Okay, you, listen up. I know you had a rough start and it’s hard to trust people. And I know that sometimes you feel like there’s not a safe place for you in this world. I saw you behind that wire, the way you trembled, head down, couldn’t even look at me. I’ve felt like that, too, so I understand -- your fears, the longing you have to breathe freely. I think you and I need each other, can be strong together. And then we will both be saved. ~ ~ ~ Dew Drop Inn – 04.16.21 15 lines / 90 words prompt: caring and care-giving >< >< >< >< >< I just read this: Findings from Shelter Animals Count, a nonprofit founded by a cross-section of animal welfare agencies, show that in 2023 more than 359,000 dogs were euthanized along with 330,000 cats. If you’re able to adopt a pet, there are plenty of good ones waiting for you in a near-by shelter. They will love you until the day they die. |
Beautiful poem, Solace.Bring . Sorry I got on my soapbox before I commented on it! If your poem hadn’t touched my heart, I probably would have skimmed over the rest of your post. I’m glad I didn’t. Thank you for this. |
buddhangela's Psychotic Break - I agree wholeheartedly. Along those same lines, sometimes people feel strongly about wanting a puppy or a kitten, but there are lots of positive reasons to find dogs and cats who are past that stage and have settled down, "learned a few things". There are also many senior dogs and cats in shelters, who, through no fault of their own, end up without homes. All the animals found in shelters need our help and most long to be part of a family. |
I have found pure breeds at the shelter. Often they are thrown away because their owners do not understand dog and cat psychology. Sadly these people have no idea where to go for help and the animal pays the ultimate price. Let me know if I can help. |
This is one of the most beautiful poems I've ever known. (Sonnet 29) by William Shakespeare When in disgrace with fortune and men's eyes, I all alone beweep my outcast state, And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries, And look upon myself and curse my fate, wishing me like to one more rich in hope, Featured like him, like him with friends possessed, Desiring this man's art, and that man's scope, With what I most enjoy contented least; Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising, Haply I think on thee—and then my state, Like to the lark at break of day arising From sullen earth sings hymns at heaven's gate; For thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings, That then I scorn to change my state with kings. |
