Sincere thanks for your kind and thoughtful gift. I feel undeserving, since I have not been the active member of WDC that I once was. What with real world concerns and a total and complete case of laziness when it comes to my writing, I have not been a serious member for some time now.

Thanks again.

I can relate to your wife's situation. I've been preparing for the last few weeks for a resumption of classroom activity. Actually, I find myself excited to begin again. There is a kind of paradox to teaching: one cannot wait for graduation in order to refuel, but I find that one is mostly excited and happy for the new school year to begin.
Suffice it to say, that there are worse ways to make a living than teaching literature.
"...do we really review so we can get a thank you?"
"Just be happy to do a good job reviewing and leave it at that."

(these are your words)
Really, Sherri? Because it takes only a moment to say "Thank You," and I think it is common courtesy and the "spirit" of WDC, you question my motives for reviewing and proceed to lecture me?
Hmmm.
a common courtesy well within the spirit of WDC couldn't be better said, Mr. Drogo... I'd bet my last whiskey those two little words, if not more, would be sanctioned by a huge majority of those who make the time and effort to read and review.
I'm not trying to lecture you. I also think people shouldn't take such offense if they do not get a response. What good does it do to get upset over something that is totally dependant on someone else? There are times I do not respond to reviews because I will suddenly get bombarded with them and there are just too many. So, I'm saying that getting upset over a non-response is not very beneficial. Is it courteous to respond to a review? Yes. Is it rude not to? Not in my opinion.
Thanks Daltry Roy. Great to hear from you. Been a while. I shall drop by when time permits. Be well, my friend.

The point of this post was to address those who do not acknowlege reviews. That is not the lack of a "nice gesture." It is a lack of gratitude and respect.
That part I agree on. A person could at least say thank you.
I don't think we should assume a non-response to a review is ungrateful or disrespectful. There are many reasons a person may not respond, and do we really review so we can get a thank you? I don't respond if I get a flood of reviews all at once as I am usually checking in on my phone and unable to, or my pc time is extremely limited. So, I would hesitate to judge without knowing someone's situation. Just be happy to do a good job reviewing and leave it at that.
I eventually do respond if I get a review. It just might not be as soon as I wish I could. I appreciate even two words ..Thank you.
People who not only fail to reciprocate review-for-review, many do not even acknowledge a sincere review.
I don't always get a return for a review. I wouldn't ask either or expect it. If they do, then it's a nice surprise. It is a nice gesture, but I don't always do a return for a review. As a group leader, I sometimes get pretty busy and might not have time to give a decent review at that time. Just saying.
When I was online all the time I would respond to reviews and review someone who reviewed me. But I no longer am able to do that. If someone specifically asks me to review something, I might make a point to do it, but otherwise, I am in and out pretty quickly. With young children about, I just don't have time to focus and give a decent review.
I happen to notice a review someone did of your work which is called Black Ice, and I got a chance to scan the item. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to reading it soon.
and also to you.
Thanks for being one of my fans. Always: Megan
You're very welcome. It really isn't difficult.
