You know, it is really really hard to write with electronics. EVERYTHING wants your attention all the time 24/7/365. I might have to do this with simple pen and paper cause I get way to sidetracked on my computer.
Trying to create a new species the likes of the elves and dwarves but from the sea. Challenging.
I have a few fleshed out ideas right now, dug deep into german and norse mythology and what not. A matriarch ant like society structure. Females can live outside of water and the males can't, except for a select few? But don't think "workers run the colony" but the matriarch runs it. Without the massive and kinda popular hive mind idea.

Or perhaps having a choice be made for every birth that enables them to be land faring and not stuck in the sea? thinking out loud but this is a great way to keep late night notes and ideas running.
If you want to go all Lovecraftian, you could always say that they're a derivative of humans. Those born female stay under the water while males are sent back to the surface because they can't survive. They come to the surface to mate and repopulate.
Well my idea is to construct conflict and create a type of destruction to the ocean/waterways that in the past had been done by the dwarven race from their industrial age/growth. I've come to the conclusion that both sexs will be able to go ashore, but undergo something similar to Circumcision (not to a sex organ) but it has to be done very early on or they can't survive long periods without water. I'm thinking something to the gills that enable the children to then breath both above water and in water. But then due to this, it could restrict how deep they could travel underwater, to say, their main city. I came up with a name so that's a start...of course I can't find it right now, lol.
Last night I really started note taking while listening to music, creating a world, story, and a few fleshed out characters. Very excited. *BigSmile*
