I assume this was set by a tutor in a creative writing class. 300 words is always a challenge - You need a few more to really catch the drama. I have re-written many times my 300 word short stories.

I have attempted children's stories but have trouble pitching them at an age group and the words appropriate to them.

You seem to be writing sad poems - I've read the one about drugs and loosing friends. Cheer up you never know when your next relationship will pop up - have a read at "Sand Between my Toes" in my portfolio its a short more or less true story. I felt like you till Anne arrived.
