An interesting dilemma. One that has been in the mind of mankind for quite a long time.

First of all you are right when you say science and logic are not synonyms. By his argument you could say many things. Like, as you point out, adapting it to an agnostic point of view. And this argument leads us to the next point. Anything that exists must be measurable. I disagree. Being a physicist, I can name you some examples, like Heisenberg's principle which states that you cannot measure the position and the velocity of a particle simultaneously. Does that mean that if I measure the velocity of a particle that particle will be nowhere? No. It means that there is an intrinsic uncertainty to the Universe itself. And this uncertainty is something that cannot be avoided.

However, it could be that our theory is wrong. Thus it is not a true representation of reality. In fact, every physic law known today is a very accurate representation of nature. However, it is an statistical result, that comes from experimentation. When a scientist goes to a lab, he takes a thousand measures, which give different results, and though statistical methods reaches to a conclusion about the data and about the phenomenon in question.

I disagree when you say that your thoughts are forced by a chain of events. I find a very important gap. And is because you are changing from the let's say material plane to the immaterial. A chain of cause and effect can affect people in the material plane for example in his eye color. It cannot affect his thoughts, however. Because there exists the step from electromagnetic impulses in our neurons to the forming of thoughts. That is the crucial step. One could argue that a chain of cause and effect indeed has some relation with thought because it can affect those electromagnetic impulses. But the point is we still do not know how thoughts are formed.

If this is true. Then there is no need for the existence of the supernatural because there is not a bias in a way that our thoughts are not conditioned, and thus there is not a 'beyond'.

I certainly enjoyed readying this essay. Personally I believe there is no God, or superior being. Not because science has proved its existence or not, but because I find it hard to believe in it.

Moving. You have given me much to think about. I'm ashamed to admit I'm one of those people that think 'why aren't those parents doing anything?'. Now, you have opened my eyes. I didn't know autism affected 1 of 150 kids. From now on, when I see a kid in a store I'll think twice before thinking it is his parent's fault.

It must be frustrating not to be able to communicate. Now I understand why they behave that way. And yet, it must be rewarding for you, as a parent, when you see your child accomplish something.

I really admire you.

Review of A TIRED GAME

Really inspiring. And very true. We all, when we are young, see life full of happy people. And yet while we age,as we live our lives as we see fit, we are only playing with fate. For, as you say, fate can be cruel.

However, I think it's good that we see the truth late. Because we might not be able to grasp it, to understand while we are young. Maybe if we know the truth before, we will not live our lives at all.

Again, a very good work.

Review of Quiet Wife

A certainly wonderful small story. Personally I like the double-edged meaning of the conversation. Should he really change the optical recognition and response card? Maybe a few adjustments, or tickling, here and there and she would recover the lost interesting in him.

I think you could expand this little piece... maybe how his life is with this cybernetic wife? what if he buys a new one?

You have a gold piece here. Keep it up!

Review of Jake

Stunning. This story hooked me up from the beginning. Very well written, the way you capture the reader's attention with the first line, how you express the innocence, at first, of a young boy, the curiosity and the doubt is magnificent.

You describe very well the impact that such a situation can have in a child. The end of the story is surprising, I would never expect it.

You have a great potential. Keep it up!
