Wow! Great story! I could easily imagine the tale. I am down South and we have lots of haunted houses and places in Charleston, SC. I love ghost stories!

I was sorry to learn about Bella's passing. She made your life better and supported you unquestionally. She lived a great life and useful life full of love and attention.

I don't know if unquestionally is the right word. But you know what I mean. It is like the way I felt about Buster, my Boykin Spaniel, which is the SC State Dog. When I was an animal control officer, he was my partner. Buster even had his own picture ID clipped to his collar.

We put him to sleep when he was 16 years old. He was very sick from Cushings Disease. I held him in my arms until his big brave heart ceased. I will never get over the loss and can never replace my Buster Brown.

So I know the feeling of loss that never really goes away. I never even trained that liver colored, curly coated, round amber eyed Boykin Spaniel. Spending every waking moment with Buster did the trick. He could read my mind, I swear! You know.

Love,
Lesley

Hi,
Angus! I love reading your stories and essays. "Not Enough" made me remember that innocent time when we felt safe in our world. Some of us are still aging flower children and always will see the world in our context. You really brought to focus the situations most of us have never seen put into words.

Happy Writing!

This is a great story, Ann. I was an animal control officer, and also a vet tech and your story touched some ouchy spots for me. This is a situation that is all too common and people should know about how animals feel. They have the same range of emotions as we do. I am sure you will beat me in the contest.

I want to join. I always see the best of everyone. Many of my friends are quite odd because I am extremely accepting. When I was writing for the newspaper in NC, I was the only one who liked the Editor. I was even accused of having an inappropriate relationship with him. I just understood him, and accepted he was just a screwball.

Wow! this is a great story! From the very first sentence on, I was absorbed in the plot and the descriptions of the situation. It was a sad ending, but appropriate. When I worked for a veterinary surgeon, we filled up a huge truck full of necessities for the displaced animals. Dr. Bianucci actually went to New Orleans to help out.

Again, I love this story!

Review of Grandpa's Farm

Hi,
I just read your cool story, "Grandpa's Farm." I lived on a farm, raising mules and donkeys, goats, chickens, you name it. Grandpa's life before all of the factory farming and drilling was an example of how folks lived a productive and rewarding existence on a self-sustaining farm. Gee that was a long sentence! I also loved the fact that Grandpa used mules to work his farm. Keep up the good work. I look forward to reading more of your port.

This story, written from the kitty's perspective, is more than likely to win the contest! I loved the dialog and Poe's antics. I found "Poe Edgar Allen," to be funny and entertaining. When I get a chance, I want to read more of your outstanding work. Keep it up!

I found this short piece to be original, insightful and skillfully written. To me, this story presents a good description of God and his reason for creating the Universe. The writer of this story seems to be a very spiritual person. I loved the quote: "No creation is complete until someone enjoys it." Again, I enjoyed this short story.

This is a great story about the feelings of a tree chopped down for Christmas! I've always loved trees and they belong in the ground. You were able to capture my imagination and reminded me that trees are living beings. My husband also likes your story. Keep up the good work!

Your Philosophy prologue sums up how I feel! It seems like you have plenty to write about, too. I also would love to write a book of animal stories. I look forward to reading more about writing your book. I am sure it will be a hit! Keep up the good work. Your book will be an opportunity to accomplish a dream.

Well written and right on the money! I know what you are saying and it shows your enthusiasm for whatever you do. A job should be more than a paycheck. I have been lucky with my career choices. I have been on call, myself, and it sucks. This piece is a good reminder of what is important.

This emotional story makes me think of my mother, who is still very much alive. The story made we think of what I would do in your place. I would like to think that I would ask God to spare her suffering. I am glad He answered your prayers.

This is so true! The corporations are interestined in becoming richer at the expense of everyone else. I know what you mean about the higher in the company you are, the more hours you spend at work. It is more responsibility and takes up a lot of time. I remember when everything was closed on Sundays and holidays, too. Now, you can even buy alcohol on Sunday!

Recycled Advice is so true for all of us! It was as if you were writing about my mother and her advice. Her advice is also recycled many times before she came along. I like the format, as well. I look forward to reading more of your port.

Hideho, again! With my law enforcement background and addiction to true crime novels, I had to read about, "Digging for Clues, part 2." From the tone you set for the reader starts out by drawing us into the storyline. I appreciated the atmosphere you set up for the story. Written like a true law enforcement individual! I can't wait to read more later.

Dear Carole,

I just finished reading your unusual story about chinchillas. I have read many animal stories, but never one about these lovely and sweet animals. It is upsetting that people still like to wear chinchilla coats, but PETA and other humane societies are campaigning against wearing fur. I am glad this family was able to find good homes. I have heard they make sweet and easy to care for pets. Do you have any? I enjoyed reading your story. I hope you keep writing about animals. Very few of us at WDC write much about animals, as far as I can tell. All of my stories are true animal adventures. I'll enclose one for you to read. I think you will enjoy reading it.
Your Friend,
Lesley

Hi, TJ Marie,
I believe I have read your stories before and I also enjoyed reading, "Bella." I think your story is perfect for the Pet Newsletter. I love the tense of your narrative. Bella is an unusually intelligent dog. I love the way she explains people and events. I wish my Cairn Terrier was as smart as Bella!

Lesley

Hello, Just Me, I love your handle. I enjoyed your entry, "A Puppy's Tale to Her Mom." I can tell from your writing that you know a lot about dogs, as well as other animals. The way you can get inside of a dog's head takes talent. I think you may be the next winner. Do keep on writing your animal stories. I am one of the very few I know of that only writes true animal adventures about alligators, buffalo and other critters. Plus, I used to raise, train and show donkeys and mules. Please, if you would like, write a story for me.

Your Friend,
Lesley

Hideho, Princess!

Your white tiger story is a wonderful story. Leave it to you to think of a topic that is different. You captured the thinking of Milandra, the white tiger, in a realistic way. I could almost imagine the wheels in her brain turning. Like you, I firmly believe animals can understand we mere humans. I feel that animals have the ability to read our minds. Of course there are a lot of factors involved, most of them unconciously made, but easy for an animal to read. I can't wait to read part 2 of the White Tiger.
Love,
Lesley

Hideho!
What a great detective story chapter, "The Crime at the 13th Stone," pt. 1 got my attention right away. My favorite shows are all crime dramas. Yours reminds me of my favortie series, "Criminal Minds." I'll bet you even record it, don't you? As far as I can tell, your story is well written, well planned and I enjoyed it. I am looking forward to reading more. I am also an Ann Rule True Crimes Writer fan. Did you know she worked with Ted Bundy on a suicide hotline when they were in college. He wrote her often, I don't know if she did or not. If I see her name on a movie based on any of her books, I automatically record it and watch it at the same time. Her book on the "Green River Killer" is superb.

Your New Friend,
Lesley

Hideho, Jesse!

I loved reading your animal short story as told by Felix, the great cat. I thought the conversations were very good and the story kept my attention. You must have a lot of cats, too. So many dump them out and they become feral. At least the tomcat had a home with play toys. It was pleasing that the little orphan did get to play with something. So many unwanted cats suffer on the streets. I was an animal control officer and President of the BCSPCA for ten years. I've seen it all. Check out my story about the abandoned kitten, Tortie

. My port is 99.99% true animal adventures. I was once attacked by an elk in rut, raised a bison that let me ride him when he was older. It was like sitting on a brillo pad.

I will look forward to reading more of your stories, Jesse. I think you are a talented writer. Email me any time and feel free to check my crazy port. I have pictures of the Bison Story.
