Sounds like the guy's having a little bad luck on his side... Losing his son with people pouring gossip, not taking a girl's... ahem, choice of fun to pass the time, and then the bus left without him when he wanted to get another drink... It's so sad! He wants to drink his memories away... Sounds to me that there's a beginning of a drunk from the memory of a fight that he had because of his son dying... but it doesn't tell out how his son died... Perhaps a little description of when and how his son died and why he got into a fight with others in the beginning of the story. That's what is questioning me in my mind.
