Review of Writing.Com 101
Review by Chellé

I have been an on again, off again member here for more than a decade. My first membership lasted for a few years, and I was happy. I loved it here and was very pleased with the friendliness, and positive reactions to my posts. Then, came the day that someone decided that the "stool spinning round" line from my poem about a drugstore soda fountain referenced a toilet flush, and declared that "drugstore" was a euphemism for something else. From that point forward, I was crushed. No matter how innocent my writings were, I was criticized - not for grammar structure and composition, but for squeezing the words "knuckle" and "head" together. And, many of those criticized pieces had been in my portfolio (with positive comments) for years.

So, with a heavy heart, I left. Years later, I came back, but was met with the same fate, and this time, my Christian pieces were attacked as well. I was devastated. So, I left again. But, I really do like WDC. Those who were members before 2008 were the bomb. So, I've kept coming back.

But, now I have low vision, due to bilateral macular degeneration, {x-link}http://www.dovemed.com/diseases-conditions/choroid...}choroidal folds{/s-link}, and extreme light sensitivity so sustained reading and commenting is not always possible. But, Chellé's got to get her writing groove back.

So, I am going to do my best to get and stay more active on here again. Because the only way I am ever going to be able to enter the workforce again is if I can be in complete control of my hours and my lighting. But, I need to build up capital and savings first. So, in the meantime, I am going to listen to and respond to my muse whenever possible.

So, the other day, I posted something on here for the first time in ages, and for the first time in all of my years on WDC, I was awarded a Merit Badge. So, I would like to give a shout out to recognize and thank Bruce. for providing me with that piece of silver lining on what was otherwise a very difficult and stress-filled day.

I am so glad that WDC still exists, and that in spite of changes here and there during my absences, I can still find the plug page and WritingML sheet. I'd still like to get my original username back, though. I believe it was MsChelle (way back somewhere between 2000 and 2006 or maybe 2007).

My memory may be a little off, but I seem to recall there being a Pennsylvania connection as well. As a Bucks County native, that gives me all the more reason to love and promote this site.

Anyway, I'd like to thank you all as well for doing such a great job and keeping this site up and running. If I was able to work, I'd gift you my 46,590 points, but I'd really like a year's worth or Premium or Premium Plus membership again. So, I kind of have to hold onto them for at least a little while yet.

In the meantime, thank you so much for reading this. I hope you all have a wonderful Friday. But, if you don't (or in some cases, didn't), fear not. There are better Fridays yet to come.

I was the oldest child and the only girl,so my role model was my mother's sister (think Mary Tyler Moore as Mary Richards, but in Washington, DC, instead of Minneapolis, Minnesota). Your poem while written from the perspective of a younger sibling's thoughts about an older sibling conveyed everything that I thought about my Aunt Patricia (1943-1989).
