The reason I read your piece is because of your description...t'was haunting and the piece was quite revealing.

I love this: "A whisper upon the wind from the beat of a butterflies wings, a painful gasp of the failing and meek." beautifully said.

I do think; however, that instead of long lines turn it into a couple of short lined verses. It may help bring the piece home.
