Review of Our Backyard
Review by YellowBlack
Rated: E | (5.0)
Perfectly captures the nostalgic remembrance of old playtime as children in the vast landscape, full of imagination then, of our backyards, these days nothing but a liability on a spreadsheet and bills to pay in the summer. This has it all - the colors, sounds, smells of childhood, as well as the dear friendship and limitless imagination of it.

Perhaps the stumbling rhythm is supposed to mirror the speaker's inability to dance? Regardless, the feeling presented here of one who'd rather stay home and not be embarrassed at their aging body, incapable of dancing, watching others in a more cold, cool, anonymous way is tragic but bittersweet. One imagines the speaker would once dance the way they see others dancing. But I can't get over the weird rhythm of this one.

Sort of suddenly vulgar, this one, but I'm not exactly one to complain about that. It's a nice enough story and certainly one with lots of sexual tension that is released (or relieved) quite soon, the kind of thing you'd find in a romance novel, but not one in barnes & noble.

Such a sensuous delight this poem is, it's so full of various sounds, colors, feelings, and song. It has a rhythm of prose and text formatting that echoes the regularity of the song, which seems to be reflecting some grand statement about life itself, in all its various shades. It's very magical realist in that sense.

Review of My Miracle
Review by YellowBlack
Rated: 13+ | (5.0)
Such a nice structure to this one. There's almost a thematic rhyming and counter-rhyming going on, where we switch perspectives every other stanza from the speaker, the darkness, and the love interest that packages this whole thing up nicely. A juxtaposition of the main ideas in the story, each with their own stanza and timeline. It's very nicely written.

I liked the humorous ending a lot. All the trouble the character went through, all the painstaking recipe following only to have it rejected outright by people who can't appreciate the effort the speaker put into it - is magnified by the comedically exaggerated ending. Who hasn't thought to do something like that in such a situation?

A quick piece that attempts to coalesce something very complex and wrought with all kinds of emotions into a single feeling. The reveal, at the end, of just whose mind we are voyeuristically peering into is satisfying and recontextualizes the narrative in a fun and surprising way.

Excellent world building here. Some "new world order" stories stick to one or two conceits, ways of being shrunk, attitudes towards tinies, etc, but this world just throws the whole smorgasbord at you and I can appreciate that. There are many story possibilities with mixing and matching and I'm excited to read them.

Review of Sensual Insanity
Review by YellowBlack
Rated: 18+ | (5.0)
Setting overwrought emotions to classic poetic structures is always a treat, and this one puts me in a wistful, almost nostalgic mood for the intense and bittersweet loves one finds in youth. I can imagine this being performed in a smoky old bar by a person in misty clothes. Ultimately it's about love, loss, revenge, betrayal, and hurt. Things everyone can relate to.

Foreign-language giantess is a trend that was introduced years ago and never really grew beyond one or two authors who liked it, so it's refreshing to see somebody trying to create a story that focuses on just one successful trope and run with it to its completion. But sometimes I wonder about the how natural the foreign language would really sound to a native speaker.

One of the few stories that has a single premise and focus and tries to execute on it. It takes place during one night, in one location, and that focus is commendable. However it is unfortunately plagued by multiple authors who try to take different characters in different directions, resulting in a mishmash of inconsistent characters.

Review of Cheating Death

An absolute classic with stories going back years, introduced trends that rode the wave of popularity and then died. Responsible for many old tropes on the site. It's like an ancient relic, except it is unmatched by its pretenders. There's nothing else like it.

This particular story takes a single premise and focus and executes on them very well. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is the best tea of its kind available. We're talking prime grade tea, although it's more like an herbal tea, because the flavor is less complex

This story is a prime example of creativity over mere writing prowess. Though relatively simple and straightforward, the scenarios here are well-thought out if a little one-note. But the level of creativity and craft that goes into them is undeniable

Review of Tiny Life Guard

Really can't believe how long this story has been going on. You can really see the evolution of a lot of writers throughout this one's history. And the characters and their personalities have remained incredibly consistent all-throughout. It speaks to how strongly they were characterized in the first place. Classic.

A classic story all around with a little something of everything and some absolutely classic characters. Very influential around the site too. Lots of good writers got their start here. Yep, this one is a good one. Lots of farting though. Very popular thing.

Great story which deserves to be re-uploaded. Too bad the original was deleted, it is a new classic. A little too much fart/clothing entrapment for my liking but who's counting? Wish there was more interaction with the roommates themselves and less so their relatives/friends/etc
