Medieval 1066 is one of the most important dates in English history, but recent studies   showed that youngsters today know more about Game of Thrones than about 1066. One of the reasons why Game of Thrones books and TV show is so horrific and brutal is of course because they are based on real life events and historical figures, and not necessarily because George R.R. Martin is an insane writer *Bigsmile*! The only insane thing here is that he joined some of these events into one and got Game of Thrones out of it. History was Martin's minor in college so that's where the passion and inspiration for each character came from.
