"Through The Windowpane"

The Road

I see the road before me,
You can hear her lonely call.
Rolling through the wind and rain;
or another winter squall.

She taught the cruelest lessons
and there is no sympathy.
White line running on ahead,
in monotonous harmony.

A siren of the sojourn,
she will lead me far away.
To shining distant cities,
as I start another day.

I'm weary of the highway,
and adventures at the end.
Until my mistress lures me,
one more mile, one more bend.

Years of staring at her face,
as the highway flows along.
Winding paths to some new place,
as she sings her lonesome song..

I hear the tires humming
down the road to destiny,
etching lines upon my face,
rough bark on this old tree.

I sometimes hear her calling
and wonder where she's been.
She'll beckon and I'm falling
in love with her again.
