Discovering poetry, and how I relate to the poets and the poetry...
Gratitude

Maybe I will never
Be a poet laureate
Nor win a Pulitzer Prize
It’s unlikely I’ll ever earn
Grants and awards from the likes
Of the Guggenheim Foundation or the National Institute of Arts and Letters

Ah, but that I know of such people
Who have done all of these things
I can search the depths of my soul
Inspired
A testament to the fact
I can read

And I still find it delightfully strange
Today’s glorious technology allows
Mere computer mouse clicks
Take me to yon literary shores
Of extraordinary women
Who I don’t see as being so different from me.

In my curious, often angry, discontentment
Solace found!
Volumes read with empathy
I am grateful
To find such kindred words
