Prompt is title. Free Verse Sonnet. First Place in Spidey's Weekly Contest.

I thank you for the hours you held my hand
And the many days you stayed by my side.
I'm grateful for the months you had my back
And for the years you said that you were there.

Without you I would not have gone as far.
I would have been lost many moons ago.
The sunrises that I've seen would be less
And I'd never have stopped to smell roses.

With you I know the sand fell more slowly.
The melancholy moments flew, fulfilled.
The dreary days were no longer empty
And I know that I owe it all to you.

My friend, you've had to sit and watch me die.
Now please let go, the time, at last, has come.
