Everyone has a rainbow. Everyone
Whispering to The Unicorn

To everyone in life there’s always one,
The rainbow you caught only a glimpse of,
The unicorn you couldn’t quite catch.

I learned to block out the memories from my mind,
The things we said,
The way you laughed.

Back then the hurt would stay away
Only to come creeping back
During that time when you’re half awake,
Half asleep,
In that place when you’re aware
That you’re still dreaming…

There were feelings I learnt to emulate,
Trying to hate you,
Trying to forget you.

And then slowly the pain started to recede,
A sharp pain in my side,
To a dull ache in my chest.

And now I can think about you with a smile on my face,
Peace in my mind,
Peace in my heart.

But there are always the things that startle a memory,
The scent of cinnamon,
A gentle laugh.

And I can remember,
With the wind on my face,
How you would shield me from the cold,
Kiss my lips,
Share my soul.

And still in that place,
I will feel your arms around me,
During that time when you’re half awake,
Half asleep,
In that place when you’re aware
That you’re still dreaming…

And in that time,
And in that place,
That is where
I will always love you,
The way I did.

My first love.

And you will be
My Unicorn,
My Rainbow.
