STRIPPING DOWN

I shed the day in increments.
Peeling off the smiley-face smock,
rag-top down, heat on, windows up.
A wan smile of moon wisps the sky.
Shrugging off the must of old
inhale, exhale, full breath, then home.
Stripping down to a hundred bones,
nine insistent orifices.
They buried Coretta today.
