Sometimes what we truly fear the most is deep within ourselves.
A Moment of Clarity
Jan. 18 / 2005

Movement out of the corner of my eye
Heart freezes
Blood stands still
I turn to face it
Terror floods me, cold and sudden

Description is impossible
No words exist frightening enough
To explain the horror it has dredged up in me
It copies my every move
Move left
It moves with me
Raise a hand
It waves back
Twisted grin mocking me

And all I can do is stare
Study detail after terrible detail
Ask it why
It doesn't answer
Nothing answers but the silence

I can't take it
Fist connects with glass
Pieces shatter, raining against the sink
Crimson drips slow against the tiled floor
The only sound I can hear

So now it's just me
Standing here bleeding
But just because I can't see it
Does that mean it's truly gone?
