Writers' Cramp Entry - meandering free verse list of wishes
I wish

I didn’t need a list
to remember what to buy
or where to go and whom to see
tomorrow, even later today.

that I could remember birthdays
and holidays – the ones that count,
write spontaneous greetings and give not
as obliged, but because it feels right.

that my fears not be numbered
using all my fingers and toes,
rather they be dwarfed by the volume
of my accomplishment and success

that spring melted winter
without the hideous muck,
that my eyes would see, my ears behold
the beckoning, just once, of true love,

that each of my days be counted
not by hours, minutes, or lists;
but by deeds, thoughts, and laughter -
time spent in the company of friends.
