Watching those struggling with Alzheimer's Disease is heartbreaking.
I remember way back when
You knew me, long ago.
My memories are endless...
The ones you do not know.

I remember way back then
You knew me... but not now.
I've had so many questions...
Like Why? and When? and How?

I would not first accept it,
Although the signs were there.
But still, I made excuses;
I could not yet despair.

And then one day it happened.
The facts that I'd refused
Hit me like a wall of bricks
When you became confused.

No longer you remember
How to button up your blouse.
You'd just as soon wear slippers
When we leave the house.

And money has no concept,
Nor cooking up a meal.
Thank God, you do not suffer
From knowing how I feel.

The one thing I have noticed...
Inhibitions are no more.
You really seem quite happy...
More so than before.

I remember way back then
When you remembered, too.
And though you will forget me,
I'll always remember you.
