For anyone who has ever sat out a dance.
She stands in the back,
Leaning against the wall.
The lights are dim,
and the music slow.

Longtime couples embrace,
and sway.
Friends shyly ask each other to dance.
And she stands alone.

Her crush sweeps by
with his girlfriend.
And smiles at her,
but still she stands alone.

She sees a partnerless friend
and asks him to dance.
He gently refuses her.
And again, she stands alone.

The song ends,
everyone awakes as if from a dream.
But she cannot see past the tears in her eyes.
As she waits for the next slow dance,
knowing she'll stand alone.
