a lion's heart / Lined up contest
It’s been a while since the lion
Came to my house.
I watched him inching closer
Every day
Till I got to look
Into his eyes.
Fluid gold,
Eager with hunger,
Bored with despair.
The despair
I could not understand.
At some point
I started hearing the rain,
Pounding on the rooftop

Draught banished for a while,
The lion’s soul adrift,
Wild , matching the storm.
Thunderbolts opening his roar.
Me, listening to him,
You would think
I would start to understand
His despair.
A lonesome king,
Sadly gazing
Across the meadows.
