Separate Ways

Blood rushing in my ears, rain drizzling through trees above,
Your words triggering explosions in my mind,
Destruction in their path.
The journey began with tender words, gentle tunes between two people
Bound together by language taking emotions high,
Compelled to travel to despair.
Forced to watch you stride away, driven apart in a rain-sodden heartbeat
Still the pounding continues, the explosions ricocheting through my brain
Haunted, my story now defined
No longer joined as one, we travel life's pathways alone, navigate separate roads.
We pass, averted eyes, scrambling avoiding shrapnel still scattered in our thoughts.
My life, my soul, single and alone,
But for memories that remain.
