Sonnet based on legend of Adonis.
Aphrodite and Adonis

Young Adonis, love of Aphrodite,
Was hunting in the woods for the wild boar.
Sweet Love, in her purest form, did nightly
Appear to her young friend, to make him more.

But unripe years, and stubbornness of youth,
Did cause him to flee from Love’s sweet embrace.
Young Adonis, mortal human uncouth,
Cursed his own beauty as Goddess chased.

He threw the javelin, it struck the boar.
Mad with pain and injustice, the boar turned.
There were no screams, no loud cries of remorse.
Just the groan from the one the boar had gored.

As Adonis died, Aphrodite found
That flowers grew from the blood on the ground.
