A poem depicting wisdom gained under the Old Pecan Tree
Lazy Days of Summer

Sitting under the Pecan Tree
which spreads it arms above us
We listen to Memaw tell of days
before our lives began.

The days gone by when times were hard
no running water, no fans, no ice.
We can't imagine a fate so poor,
as we sit before an old box fan.

Sitting under the Pecan Tree
which spreads its arms above us
My kids listen as I tell of days
before their lives began.

The days gone by when times were hard
no air conditioner, no computers, no cars.
They can't imagine a fate so poor,
as we sit in air conditioned homes.
